The journey matters more than the end

Piglet: “Pooh?”
Pooh: “Yes, Piglet?”
Piglet: “When we’re walking and the day is ending, do you ever wonder where the road goes?”
Pooh: “Sometimes,” said Pooh, looking ahead. “But mostly I just like that you’re walking it with me.”
Piglet thought about that for a long moment.
Piglet: “It’s funny, isn’t it? How the road looks a little less long when there’s someone beside you.”
Pooh: “That’s because friends don’t really make the road shorter,” said Pooh. “They just make it feel that way.”
They walked on quietly, the setting sun painting their shadows long and golden across the path.
Piglet: “Pooh?”
Pooh: “Yes, Piglet?”
Piglet: “Promise we’ll keep walking, even when the road feels a bit twisty?”
Pooh: “Promise,” said Pooh. “And if you ever can’t see where it goes, I’ll wait right here till you can.”
And together they went on — not quickly, not slowly, but just right for two dear friends who knew that the journey mattered more than the end.
