If Texas Had a Heart

We really had a good thing going
But I wasn't satisfied
I watched the tumble weeds keep blowing
To different dust across state lines
The gates were open, I did what I did
But I keep on wondering what if

If Texas had arms they would've pulled me in close
And if it had a voice it would've said "Please, don't go"
If Texas had a smile it would shine big and bright
Like a lonestar pointing me home in the middle of the night
If Texas was jealous it wouldn't like Tennessee
But if Texas had a heart, then Texas wouldn't ever let me leave

It would've shut the highway down
Took the air out my tires
Would've made me step on out
To stop and smell the wildflowers
Would've tried to slow me down just for a minute
And painted the sky one more time to keep me in it

If Texas had arms they would've pulled me in close
And if it had a voice it would've said "Please, don't go"
If Texas had a smile it would shine big and bright
Like a lonestar pointing me home in the middle of the night
If Texas was jealous it wouldn't like Tennessee
But if Texas had a heart, then Texas wouldn't ever let me leave

If Texas had arms they would've pulled me in close
And if it had a voice it would've said "Please, don't go"
If Texas had a smile it would shine big and bright
Like a lonestar pointing me home in the middle of the night
If Texas was jealous it wouldn't like Tennessee
But if Texas had a heart, then Texas wouldn't ever let me leave
